Wonders of Earth

Dear God,

Life is so much with me that I sometimes forget to savor it.  Emily, in Thornton Wilder’s play “Our Town,” says, “Oh, earth, you’re too wonderful for anybody to realize you.” Give me the grace to slow down, and sometimes stop, just to appreciate the wonders that are before me.

Your world is beautiful beyond compare.  May I remember this today, as I walk through yet another gift of a day.

Thank You.

Amen.

Waning Summer

Dear God,

Summer is winding down, and my favorite season, autumn, is gearing up.  The porch this morning was already much cooler.  I felt blessed by the temperature.

May I truly experience every season with renewed appreciation.  Thank You for the seasons of the year, the variations that give us new interest in living somewhat differently.

Amen.

Thank You, God

Dear God,

This morning I am especially appreciative of the life that my husband and I have together.  Our health is good, we have enough to live on, we love each other.  Your blessings are palpable today.

May I never hesitate to reach out to others who may be in less fortunate positions.  From those to whom You have given much, much is expected.

Thank You for Your care and Your Love.

Amen.

Writing

Dear God,

I think You bless my work when I am following in the right pathway and open to guidance.  Thank You for giving my writing yesterday a great deal of flow.  I ask for the same today.

Be with me.  Prompt me to listen to You.  Your opinion counts with me, and I want to write in a way that You would approve—and appreciate.

Thank You.

Amen.

Appreciation

Dear God,

I try to treat my significant other—my husband—well.  When I get impatient with him, I do become quite regretful afterwards.  This morning, he went above and beyond duty to please me.  He got things done for me that I could never have succeeded in doing if I had been alone.

I appreciate as well as love him.  And I especially appreciate him when his good deeds follow my impatience.  He doesn’t hold my less-than-wonderful behavior against me.  He forgives, just as You teach me to do.

Thank You for opening that door—to my husband—after I had found windows down the hallway closed.

Amen.
