Christmas Poignancy

Dear God,

I am thinking of an old friend with whom I am out of touch.  He usually has a very bad time at Christmas, reliving childhood memories of poverty, remembering the sparsely decorated Christmas tree that his mother fixed for him one year, one rope of red, one rope of green, nothing else.

There are many people like my friend.  And I say a special prayer for You to bless them at this Christmas.  May they know that happiness is meant to be from You, and we shouldn’t cast a dark shadow over Your blessings.  Sometimes we can’t help ourselves, and I ask for Your gift of love to make a difference.

Amen.
